Upgrading iVend

To upgrade an iVend from one version to a newer version, you'll require an iVend Updater device. They are distributed with the latest vendor kit and will be named for the version they upgrade the vendor to. For example, the "iVend Updater 2.3" will update an iVend to v2.3 (from 2.1 or 2.2).

Note: You cannot upgrade the free-version iVend 2.2 or earlier, as they are not modifiable (i.e no-mod - hence the updater can't change the scripts).

Should I upgrade?

If you have iVend 2.1 or earlier you should upgrade, as v2.1 and older are no longer fully supported. If you're using iVend 2.2, you may want to upgrade to take advantage of the many new features in v2.3 - particularly the new user/customer menu that will help avoid buyers contacting you in case of delivery problems.

You can freely mix iVend 2.0, 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 vendors with iServ 2.2, 2.21 and 2.3. So - no need to upgrade your iServs to 2.3 to use the iVend 2.3 vendors. However, iVend 2.3 and iServ 2.3 use SL's new fast scripting engine, so you may want to take advantage of that (to reduce load on sims). As of this writing, no iServ Updater is available - hence you may wish to wait to upgrade your existing iServs until it is released and just use iServ 2.3 for new servers.

Updater usage

Rezz the iVend updater near the iVend(s) you wish to update (within chat range). You can only update one iVend at-a-time. Touch the iVend (not the updater) info button to bring up the owner menu and select the "updateme" option. The iVend will trigger the updater to begin updating its scripts. It can take a while, since SL imposes a speed-limit on script updates.

Be sure to stick around so that you can grant the iVend debt permission when it resets after the update is complete. The updater will IM you when it is almost complete so you know to expect the debt permission pop-up from the upgrded vendor.

Once it is complete, you can move onto the next one.

Advanced: If you're adventurous and don't mind risking destroying your vendors, you can try to rezz another updater after the first has started and start the update of another vendor. Once the updaters have started, they will not interfere with each other. However, if there is more than one updater idle/ready when you select "updateme" for an iVend, both updaters might start trying to update it at once - likely resulting in a broken iVend that'll need to be replaced and perhaps requiring the updater to be reset/re-rezzed.
